I'm the esthetician behind Onyx Skin Co. — a one-chair studio on San Mateo built for people who are tired of generic facials that don't change anything. Whether it's cystic acne, dehydration from our climate, or texture you've been fighting for years, the work starts the same way: by actually reading your skin.

What should I do before my first appointment?

Come with a clean face if you can — no makeup or SPF. If that's not possible, no problem, we'll cleanse together. Skip retinol and exfoliating acids for 3 days before any treatment, and bring a mental list of what's been bothering you.

How often should I get a facial?

For most clients, every 4–6 weeks matches your skin's natural turnover cycle. Acne clients often come weekly or bi-weekly during a clearing series, then maintain monthly. Your consultation gives you a written cadence personalized to your skin.

Is this a good fit for acne-prone skin?

Yes — acne-prone skin is a focus here. We start by reading your skin in a consultation or custom facial, then build a plan that may include the NanoPen, a back facial for body acne, or a series of treatments. If you're on Accutane currently or within the last 6 months, peels are a no-go, but custom facials are still safe.

Does the Korean Green Sea Peel have downtime?

It's a deeper exfoliation treatment, so expect some flaking and renewal over the days that follow. You'll get clear aftercare and exactly what to expect at your appointment — and SPF is non-negotiable while your skin renews. Not every skin is a candidate, which is why we assess first.

Can I get a facial during pregnancy?

Yes — a customized pregnancy-safe facial absolutely. We skip retinol, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, and most chemical peels, and focus on hydration, gentle exfoliation, lymphatic drainage, and SPF. Just let me know when you book.

Do you take walk-ins? What's the cancellation policy?

By appointment only — the studio is a one-chair operation. A small deposit holds your appointment and is applied to your service. Reschedules 48+ hours out keep the deposit on file; inside 24 hours it's forfeit. Please be considerate of a one-chair calendar.
